A Framework for Improving Building Operating Decisions
Decision Support System Tool

A Framework for Improving Building Operating Decisions is a research project being conducted at the University of Reading in partnership with Penn State.

The decision support system tool is the final phase of the research.  The decision support system tool can be used by facility managers and facility management consultants to evaluate the energy and maintenance management practices for a building or campus of buildings.  The tool consists of a series of multiple choice questions that are processed using a computerized process to evaluate how proactive or reactive the energy and maintenance management practices are.

The following is provided for the building or campus of buildings the question set was completed for:

  • Three one-page best practice recommendations that align with the goals and needs of the facility management team
  • A numerical score of how reactive or proactive the energy and maintenance management practices are
